Explanation
These graphs depict the monthly or annual Global Surface Temperature Anomaly data relative to the 1880-1920 or 1951-1980 means. The 1951-1980 anomaly data was sourced from GISS Surface Temperature Analysis (GISTEMP v4) produced by the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The 1880-1920 anomaly data was sourced from the Global Temperature data page provided by James Hansen & Pushker Kharecha (The Earth Institute at Columbia University) at https://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/Data/ ; when this site is out of sync with the more frequently-updated GISTEMP site, the difference between the relevant anomalies is used to estimate the missing 1880-1920 anomaly. We thank the Goddard Institute for Space Studies and The Earth Institute for making their data available.
